PURPOSE
The hipshot is a tool which is intended to aid professional camera operators by offering them another shooting option when operating handheld. The hipshot provides a waist high stable video camera support platform, which is contoured to securely cradle several pro format cameras: Sony, Panasonic, and Ikegami. It is designed to assist the operator in stabilizing the camera, yet requires the operator to keep one hand on the camera at all times. It is great for covering long scenes where the subject is seated or a low angle interview or where O.T.F (on the fly) is desired. The hand flip action with positive auto lock, provides a strong and stable camera platform, which conveniently folds down when not in use.
COMFORT
The hipshot is designed with maximum operator comfort in mind. The camera weight is distributed over a neoprene pad, and enables you to stand with proper posture while operating. The standard support belt is an athletic cut, which provides back support. It offers full mobility, and the belt can hold additional tools that an ENG operator requires.
DEVELOPMENT
The hipshot was in development for over two years, and the final prototypes have been field tested for over one year. It was conceptualized by Andrei Cranach, a camera operator specializing in ENG and reality television coverage. Andrei brought on the expertise of Jim Held, a Caltech graduate with 33 years experience in mechanical engineering, to design the hipshot.
FABRICATION
The hipshot is manufactured with computer designed parts that are precision machined using both CNC and manual machining tools. The platform is cast aluminum 356-T6 alloy. All parts are fabricated in San Diego, CA using aircraft quality, black anodized aluminum, Cordura nylon, and high density neoprene. Our confidence in this product is so high, we will replace any part, used normally, for life.
